Vega Asensio Herrero • Founder • Scientific illustrator & designer

Vega holds a PhD in Biology from the University of the Basque Country. She has worked and studied at different European universities as a researcher. She founded the NorArte Study in 2011, uniting her two passions, drawing and science, and driven by the need to improve scientific communication and dissemination. She is currently the coordinator and teacher of the first master’s degree in scientific illustration in Spain at the University of the Basque Country.

Izaskun Alberdi Landaluze • Scientific illustrator & designer

Izaskun holds a BSc in Biology from the University of the Basque Country and completed postgraduate specialist studies in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at the Pablo de Olavide University (Seville, Spain) and Scientific Illustration at the University of the Basque Country. Professionally, she has worked in several areas related to biology, including as a guide in the Basque Coast Geopark of and as a research technician. She has been part of NorArte Visual Science since 2018 and teaches on the master’s degree in scientific illustration at the UPV/EHU.

Ana Madinabeitia Olabarria • Scientific illustrator & designer

Ana holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country and she has deep knowledge of biology. She completed her postgraduate specialist studies in Scientific Illustration at the University of the Basque Country with honor distinction. She has also a master degree in graphic and multimedia design at the INEDI Design School in Bilbao. She has been part of NorArte Visual Science since 2018 and teaches on the master’s degree in scientific illustration at the UPV/EHU.

Maddi Astigarraga Bergara • Scientific illustrator & designer

Graduated in Biomedical Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, she did a postgraduate course in Scientific Illustration at the UPV/EHU and completed her studies with a master’s degree in Teacher Training at the same university. Her work focuses on the use of drawing as a learning method, she has extensive experience in the design of workshops and is the leader, together with Vega Asensio, of the ZIENTZIA-ARKATZA project, which aims to offer teachers a series of concepts, methodologies and basic resources to work on the visual literacy of students and thus promote the use of images and drawing in scientific disciplines. She is part of NorArte Visual Science since 2022.

More than 10 years as Technical Manager at the Basque Association of Biologist (Colegio Oficial de Biologos de Euskadi, COBE). Over 20 years’ experience as a teacher (English, German and yoga) and scientific translator. Çinta is the coordinator of the course Efficient presentations and teaches the modules on Managing Nerves, Relaxation and Non-Verbal and Para-Verbal Language.

Carles Puche • Scientific illustrator

A world-renowned illustrator, he has been teaching scientific illustration courses at different institutions and universities for over twenty years. His drawings have been published in prestigious magazines such as Mundo Científico, National Geographic, El Temps, Mètode, Ciència, Medi Ambient or Bouteloua.
